Phillipa Mary-Belle is a self-taught acrylic painter working from her studio, focused on horses and ponies painted in warm, low light. Each portrait starts with hours spent with the animal — or with photographs taken by their owner — before weeks of slow, layered painting.
Commissions are welcome: send a few clear photos of your horse and a sense of the mood you'd like, and Phillipa will talk you through sizing, timing and price.
From reference photos to a finished portrait, delivered — three steps.
A few clear, well-lit shots of your horse, plus a sense of the mood or moment you'd like captured.
Layer by layer in acrylic, usually over several weeks, working from your reference photos and notes.
Your finished piece, painted in acrylic on canvas board, is packaged carefully and shipped to you.
Every commission includes your choice of background — a soft single colour to let your horse take centre stage, or a hand-painted striped backdrop like the one behind Nose to Nose.

Shipping and packaging are charged separately, based on where your portrait is being sent, and collected as part of your final balance payment before it's posted out to you.
